Academic Achievement for Research in Diversity & Inclusion in Global Education Awards

The Academic Achievement for Research in Diversity & Inclusion in Global Education Awards recognizes original research at the undergraduate and graduate level that contributes to our understanding of diversity & inclusion in global education. Recipients of the Academic Achievement for Research in Diversity and Inclusion in Global Education Award will be expected to, and have the opportunity to share their work broadly at the 6th Annual Diversity Abroad Conference.

 

Student Awards

Diversity Abroad welcomes nominations for the 2018 Academic Achievement for Research in Diversity and Inclusion in Global Education Awards. There are two categories for this award: undergraduate student and graduate student. Students must be engaged in rigorous research contributing to the base of knowledge of how people live and learn together, globally. Research must be original and can be either unpublished (e.g. from a class, or from an education abroad program project). These original projects can be from a wide array of disciplines and must employ either qualitative, quantitative, historical, ethnographic, or another means of analysis based on rigorous principles of research and should contribute to our understanding of diversity & inclusion in global education. 

Nominees are encouraged to register for the Annual Diversity Abroad Conference by the end of the Early Bird Registration period.

  • Academic Achievement - Graduate 
  • Academic Achievement - Undergraduate


Eligibility

1) Nominated student must have been:

  • an undergraduate or graduate student at the time the academic work was conducted; and
  • enrolled as full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the 6 months prior to the submission deadline.

2) The nominated project must be completed. It may be conducted in any academic discipline, and can include collaborative research projects conducted jointly and co-authored by students and faculty. Nominations must be completed in English, even if the academic work was conducted and the project completed in another language.


Nominations

All nominations must include:

  • Nomination Form
    A completed online nomination form with student’s contact information (name, physical address, email address, institutional affiliation) and title of student’s research project.
  • Student Statement
    Please describe (approx 250 words) your connection to Diversity Abroad’s vision: That the next generation of young people from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds are equipped with the skills and experience to compete in the 21st century global marketplace.

  • Student Abstract
    Title of project and abstract (including thesis, methodology, and implications of project) 250 words (all files must be smaller than 30MB)

  • Faculty recommendation
    Faculty member will submit a 250 word statement supporting the student and their research, including references to how this research embodies or enhances diversity and inclusion in global education (all files must be smaller than 30MB)


Outcomes

Recipients of the Academic Achievement for Research in Diversity and Inclusion in Global Education Award will have the opportunity to share their work at the 6th Annual Diversity Abroad Conference. This includes sharing their research during the awards luncheon, and displaying their work visually as part of the research poster community. Recipients will receive “Coaching” from the Assessment and Learning Manager to prepare for their presentations and poster. Recipients will also be asked to submit a 2-5 page scholarly report on their work to the Diversity Abroad Network within 2 months after the awards presentation at the annual conference.
