Diversity Abroad was founded in 2006 on a simple concept - all students deserve equitable access to global educational opportunities. Since its inception Diversity Abroad, among other activities, has directly connected with thousands of students, visited hundreds of college campuses, secured over $1million in scholarship funds, and provided education professionals and faculty with professional learning opportunities, all in an effort to realize its vision. A few key initiatives and projects:
AIDE Roadmap - The Access, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (AIDE) Roadmap is the first set of diversity & inclusive good practice guidelines for education abroad.
Diversity Abroad Conference - The most comprehensive national forum on issues of access, diversity, equity, and inclusion in global education.
DiversityAbroad.com - A comprehensive online resource that connects diverse students to the information and networks needed to take advantage of global education.
MSI Global Education Summit - One of a kind event designed to enhance the institutional capacity of MSIs to integrate international education efforts into the current campus climate.
Global Institute for Inclusive Leadership - An immersive, 8-day interactive workshop designed for professionals who are interested in gaining skills and networks to better support their global education and diversity-related work.
Global Student Leadership Summit - The premier leadership conference for students from diverse backgrounds who have participated in study abroad or other international programs.
About the Diversity Abroad Network
The Diversity Abroad Network the leading professional consortium of educational institutions, government agencies, for-profit and non-profit organizations who share Diversity Abroad’s vision that the next generation of young people from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and experience to be successful in the 21st century global marketplace. Together, members of the Diversity Abroad Network work to advance policies and practices that advance access, diversity, equity and inclusion in global education and exchanges.
The Diversity Network Objectives Are:
Develop and advocate the implementation of diversity and inclusion good practices in international education;
Empower international educators and other academic professionals to increase participation and achieve greater diversity in international education programs;
Create a collaborative environment for international educators, diversity/multicultural educators, and other academic/student service professionals to share, discuss and debate strategies and best practices for recruiting, advising, and serving the needs of diverse students in global education;
Provide members with professional development and resource materials to assist in recruiting, advising and preparing underserved students for international education;
Diversify international education professionals by connecting employers who value a diverse and globally minded workforce with professionals who promote and enhance diversity in global education;
Inform Diversity Network members about developments in the area of diversity in global education;
Contribute to and conduct research about diversity in global education.
