A Reflection on Ten Years of Diversity Abroad

The image is still vivid in my mind. It was an early morning in late May 2006. I woke up, opened my laptop, logged into the beta pages of a new website,, and made sure the final touches on the website were done and that the site was ready to go live. As I strolled down the streets of Montreal that morning headed to the 2006 NAFSA Conference I had no idea that a decade later, this project, which Diversity Abroad was at that time, would transform into the leading organization that connects diverse and underrepresented young people to global opportunities and become the leading voice on access, diversity, equity and inclusion in global education. Reflecting on the past ten years and looking forward to the next ten years I’m filled with three different emotions: gratitude, excitement, and hope. Here’s why.
